PRESENTATION - Having visited Italy for over 30 years I have come to appreciate that the reputation that Italy has of being devoid of birds is simply not justified. For example, during a four day birdwatching trip to Sardinia it would be possible to see around 100 breeding species including Eleonora's Falcon, Barbary Partridge, Purple Swamphen, Slender-billed Gull, Audouin's Gull, Little Bustard and Marmora's Warbler. It would not be possible to see this combination of breeding birds anywhere else! This superb comprehensive book should appeal to all visiting birdwatchers as it makes it easy to find out information about bird sites and includes many detailed maps. It also gives information on where to see particular bird species including sub-species information, for example, Lanius senator badius. The standard of the information in this book is impressive and I would thoroughly recommend it to all birdwatchers visiting Italy.
